Genital Warts

Genital warts are small, flesh-colored or gray growths that appear in the genital or anal area, caused by certain strains of the human papillomavirus (HPV). They can be flat or raised, single or clustered, and sometimes have a cauliflower-like appearance. Genital warts are one of the most common sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and can be spread through direct skin-to-skin contact during sexual activity.

Many people infected with HPV may not develop visible warts, but the virus can still be transmitted. While genital warts are usually painless, they can cause discomfort, itching, or a burning sensation in some cases. Treatments for genital warts include topical medications, cryotherapy (freezing), laser therapy, and surgical removal, but it’s important to note that treatment removes the warts, not the underlying virus.
